Our Story

AcousticWorks was established March 28th, 1984 when original owner John McVey showed up for work one fateful day to find the doors locked at his then employer Ceiling Craftsman. While John was there trying to make sense of things the bank repo man pulled up. As John forfeited his company truck, he did the smartest thing he knew and asked if he could purchase the telephone number for the business. The bank agreed, and the rest you could say is history.

John McVey and his wife Sandy ran AcousticWorks from their home for the first few years slowly moving to their first office in Escondido and then to their office of many years at 382 State Place in Escondido. With the hard work of John & Sandy McVey AcousticWorks thrived for many years not only in a business sense but also in creating a positive productive work environment with many employees having stuck with the company for decades. One such employee being Aaron Sellers.

During the economic downturn of 2008 Aaron ran across AcousticWorks while his current company had been given a stimulus contract to renovate every Chase Bank in Southern California.  The work proved to much for Aaron’s current company, so they enlisted the help of AcousticWorks to fulfill all this work.  It was during this time working together that AcousticWorks recognized the potential of the young journeyman and through some negotiating were able to sway Aaron into staying with AcousticWorks.

Aaron Sellers remained in the field with AcousticWorks for about six months before John asked him to come into the office to help estimate. With Aaron’s college degree and friendly temperament, he quickly rose to lead estimator for AcousticWorks securing much larger and more lucrative government and public works contracts for AcousticWorks. This and setting into place an official safety program led AcousticWorks to the forefront of the Southern California Suspended ceilings market.

Then on January 1st, 2019 after many months of negotiation Aaron purchased AcousticWorks from John and Sandy McVey to become President and CEO.  Within his first year Aaron raised sales by 25% and then another 25% the following two years. Then in 2021 he went on to purchase their current office space at 622 Aero Way in Escondido, Ca. With the help of all the loyal, hardworking employees and the leadership of Aaron it seems there are only good things lying ahead for AcousticWorks.  So please let us be a part of your companies’ journey as you now know a little about ours.
